Maps keep updating. Previously viewed maps work with a weak signal.
Saturday October 17 and Sunday October 18, 2026. Roads are closed 10:00 AM–10:00 PM on both days. Highlights: the Shinkosai procession on the 17th (about 1:00–2:30 PM), Yoiyama on the 17th (about 6:00–7:00 PM) and the float parade at City Hall on the 18th (about 1:30–4:00 PM). Float face-offs (hikkawase) happen at any time on both days.
Central Kawagoe is closed to vehicles 10:00 AM–10:00 PM on both days. You cannot ride bicycles either — walk them. See the "Traffic Restriction" layer on the map. Tobu, Seibu and Koedo loop bus routes are changed.
Floats move around the closed-off area all day, not only at scheduled events. During Yoiyama (Oct 17, about 6:00–7:00 PM) they stop at the spots shown under "Highlights" on the map, and on Oct 18 (about 1:30–4:00 PM) many pass City Hall. For live float positions use the official "Kawagoe Matsuri Navi" app.
It happens whenever two floats meet, so there is no fixed time or place. Look for it at intersections inside the closed-off area; the night face-offs are the climax.
There are 22 permanent and temporary toilets, 16 of them with accessible toilets. Temporary toilets are open 10:00 AM–10:00 PM and some are open 24 hours. See "Toilets" on the map for locations and hours.
Temporary car parks P1–P6 open 8:30 AM–10:00 PM on both days (locked at 11:00 PM); school grounds close if the ground is in poor condition. Bicycle parking is at the City Hall north coach bay and Chuo Elementary (8:30 AM–10:00 PM). The center gets very congested, so public transport is recommended.
Hon-Kawagoe Station (Seibu Shinjuku Line) is closest to the center. You can also walk from Kawagoe Station (JR Kawagoe Line / Tobu Tojo Line) and Kawagoeshi Station (Tobu Tojo Line). Crea Mall and the main street get crowded, so use the blue "less crowded streets" on the map.
Food stall villages are set up at four places: the Maruhiro Department Store east car park, Times Kawagoe Saiwai-cho No. 2 car park, the MS tour bus car park and Renkei-ji Temple grounds. Open 10:00 AM–9:30 PM on the 17th and 10:00 AM–9:00 PM on the 18th.
Ten "baby stations" for nursing and diaper changing are available, including the Kawagoe Festival Museum, Motomachi rest area and Koedo Kurari. The center gets very crowded, so the blue streets on the map are better for strollers.
From Ikebukuro, an express on the Tobu Tojo Line reaches Kawagoe Station in about 30 minutes. From Seibu-Shinjuku Station, the Seibu Shinjuku Line goes to Hon-Kawagoe, about 45 minutes on the Koedo limited express (reserved seats, extra fare). From Shinjuku and Shibuya, through trains on the JR Saikyo and Kawagoe lines also run to Kawagoe Station.
The center is closed to vehicles 10:00 AM–10:00 PM (walk your bicycle). Hon-Kawagoe Station is closest to the center. Crea Mall and the main street (warehouse district) get crowded, so get around on the blue "less crowded streets".
The shrine deity rides a portable shrine through town — the ritual the float festival grew out of. Leaves Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine at 1:00 PM, returns around 2:30 PM.
Floats are pulled around the closed-off area all day, not only at scheduled events. Four food stall villages are open (Oct 17 10:00 AM–9:30 PM, Oct 18 10:00 AM–9:00 PM). Ibayashi music is performed at the former Kobayashi Toan residence site near the Kawagoe Festival Museum.
Floats light their lanterns and stop in front of each town's kaisho to play hayashi music — the best time to see them up close.
When two floats meet they turn to face each other and compete with their music. There is no fixed time or place — it happens anywhere in the closed-off area, and peaks at night.
Road closures end at 10:00 PM. The Hon-Kawagoe Station area gets crowded, so Kawagoe and Kawagoeshi stations are alternatives. Take the blue streets to the station.
