The first rooster day is November 7 (Sat) and the second is November 19 (Thu). There is no third rooster day in 2026. Each day runs 24 hours, from midnight to midnight.
At midnight at the start of each day. The drum opens the market and is followed by the Washimai dance. The eve-of ceremony starts at 11:15 PM the night before (attendance by reservation).
Three times a day at Otori Shrine: just after midnight (after the first drum), around 6 PM and around 8 PM. Times may change with the crowds.
Usually Senwa-dori, Nakanocho-dori and the streets around the shrine and temple are closed to vehicles 10:00 AM–10:00 PM, and the Senzoku area east of them from 2:00 to 10:00 PM. Kokusai-dori is no-stopping 7:30 AM–10:00 PM, so taxis cannot drop off. The map on this page uses the Asakusa Police 2024 closure map and will be updated when the 2026 map is published.
Iriya (Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line, 7 minutes from Exit 3), Minowa (Hibiya Line, 9 minutes) and Asakusa on the Tsukuba Express (8 minutes). By Toei Bus (Nippori–Kinshicho), Ryusen stop is 2 minutes away. From Asakusa Station on the Ginza Line or Tobu Line it is about a 20-minute walk.
There is no dedicated car or bicycle parking, and traffic backs up with the closures and crowds, so please use trains or buses. Bicycles left on the street keep the road closures from being lifted, so visitors are asked not to come by bike.
No. You can simply visit the shrine and browse the kumade stalls and food stands. A kumade is a decorated bamboo rake, a lucky charm for good fortune and business success. They range from small to very large, and prices vary by stall. When you buy one, the sellers celebrate with a rhythmic hand-clap (tejime).
At midnight the first drum at Otori Shrine opens the market, which then runs a full 24 hours. The Washimai dance follows the drum. The eve-of ceremony starts at 11:15 PM the night before (attendance by reservation).
The closest station is Iriya (Hibiya Line, 7 minutes from Exit 3). Both the shrine and the temple are entered from Kokusai-dori. From 10:00 AM the streets around the shrine and temple are closed to vehicles, and from 7:30 AM Kokusai-dori is no-stopping — taxis cannot drop off.
