The competition starts at 5:30 PM on Saturday, November 7, 2026, and is scheduled to end at 8:00 PM. It goes ahead in rain; in severe weather it is postponed to Saturday, November 14, and cancelled if neither day is possible.
From the Sakura River bank just downstream of Gakuen Bridge. Star Mines are launched south of Gakuen Bridge, and the No. 10 shells and creative fireworks north of AEON Mall Tsuchiura. The area around the launch sites is closed; AEON Mall Tsuchiura closes for the day, and the mall and its car parks are inside the no-entry zone.
Tsuchiura Station on the JR Joban Line (about 70 min from Ueno by local train, 45 min by limited express). The venue is about 2.5 km away, a 30-minute walk. Shuttle buses run from the East Exit to the venue at Gakuen Bridge (to the venue 3:00–5:30 PM, back 6:30–9:30 PM; ¥400 adults, ¥200 children one way; about 10 minutes; IC cards accepted). From Tsukuba Station on the Tsukuba Express it is about 7 km, and the regular buses toward the venue stop running from 3:00 PM.
The official walking guide recommends the Sakuragawa course to Tsuchiura Station (about 3.3 km, 45+ minutes), with the Kokado-shita course (about 3.0 km, 40+ minutes) and the Machinaka course (about 3.3 km, 40+ minutes) as alternatives. The West Exit gets extremely crowded, so use the East Exit. After the show, paid seating empties block by block in staggered waves; follow the announcements and staff. Entry to the station may be restricted, and limited-express tickets do not give priority boarding.
Box seats (full box for 5, ¥26,000; half box for 2, ¥13,000; sajiki chair ¥12,000; table for 4, ¥80,000) and chair seats (A ¥6,000, B ¥5,000, C ¥4,000). Tickets are sold by advance lottery only, with no box-office sales. You cannot enter the paid seating areas without a ticket.
You cannot enter the paid seating areas or the no-entry zone around the launch sites. Guidance for people without tickets is posted on the official website’s “For those without tickets” page.
Per the 2026 (95th) traffic map: Gakuen Bridge is closed to everyone including pedestrians (6:00 AM–10:00 PM); the Tsuchiura-Gakuen Line from Gakuen-ohashi-minami to the Tanakamachi intersection is reserved for shuttle buses (2:30–10:00 PM); from Tanakamachi to the Sentocho intersection it is one-way toward Tsuchiura Station (2:30–10:00 PM); the Shishitsuka-Oiwata Line south of the launch area is closed (9:00 AM–10:00 PM); and the elevated road between Gakuen Bridge and the station East Exit is reserved for shuttle buses (2:15–10:00 PM). On Route 6, the Tsuchiura-Gakuen Line exit and the Tokyo-bound entrance close 2:30–10:00 PM.
About 4,000 spaces, free and paid, are provided (paid spaces are sold in advance). The free car parks are the Ibaraki Tsuchiura Joint Government Building staff car parks West and East (about 100 spaces each) and Kasumigaura General Park (about 600), all from 1:00 PM; the Tsuchiura Station East and West car parks (up to ¥1,000 a day) are also available. Traffic builds from the morning, jams by about 3:00 PM and stays heavy late into the night, so public transport is recommended. There is no temporary motorcycle or bicycle parking: use the Tsuchiura City Ekihigashi car park (Ariake-cho 2) for motorcycles and the bicycle parking around Tsuchiura Station for bicycles.
No printed program is sold; the official pamphlet (PDF) is on the official website. The mobile network can be slow on the day, so download it in advance. Multilingual programs in English, Chinese and Portuguese are also available. A free simplified program is planned to be handed out at the information desks.
No. Flying drones and other small unmanned aircraft over or around the venue is banned, and so are sightseeing helicopter flights to watch the show. They can force the fireworks to stop or the event to be cancelled, and the organizers may claim damages. People have been arrested twice in the past for flying drones in violation of the Civil Aeronautics Act.

The officially recommended walking route back to the station (about 3.3 km, 45+ minutes): along the pedestrian-only levee road, then the riverside promenade down the Sakura River, turning north at Suigo Bridge to the station’s East Exit. At Tsuchiura and Zenigame bridges you cannot cross on the bridge; take the promenade underneath. Watch your step on the ramp near Sakuragawa Bridge. The West Exit gets extremely crowded, so the East Exit is recommended. The official map also shows the Kokado-shita course (about 3.0 km) and the Machinaka course (about 3.3 km).
The official Kokado-shita course (about 3.0 km): east along the Tsuchiura-Gakuen Line sidewalk from the Tanakamachi intersection, then splits past the Sentocho intersection: one way follows the street beneath the elevated road past the Machikado-gura Daitoku, the other heads straight east along the street on the Sakuramachi side; both come out on the station’s West Exit side. The West Exit gets extremely crowded, so the official guide recommends the East Exit. Traced from the dotted line on the official traffic map and fitted to OpenStreetMap streets; approximate.
The official Machinaka course (about 3.3 km): northeast from the Tanakamachi intersection past Tsuchiura Police Station, across the Mito Kaido and southeast along the Tsuchiura-Ryugasaki Line to the Machikado-gura Daitoku, then along Mall 505, across the tracks north of the station and past the north side of the Tsuchiura Station East car park and in front of L’AUBE, toward Kawaguchi Sports Park (P-16). Traced from the dotted line on the official traffic map and fitted to OpenStreetMap streets; approximate.

Arriving buses drop off nearer Gakuen Bridge; return buses board nearer the entrance to the pedestrian-only levee road. Return service runs 6:30–9:30 PM (may be extended if crowded), and the wait can exceed 30 minutes.
Stop for shuttle buses to the venue at Gakuen Bridge, running 3:00–5:30 PM; the 5:30 PM bus is the last and tickets stop being sold after that. You queue to buy a ticket, so boarding can take over 30 minutes. The shuttle ticket office is north of the East Exit beside the elevated road.

Launch site for the Star Mine (rapid-fire) competition, south of Gakuen Bridge, inside the no-entry zone.
Launch site for the No. 10 (30 cm) shell and creative fireworks competitions, north of AEON Mall Tsuchiura, inside the no-entry zone.
In the 10-gou contest a 30 cm shell rises about 330 m and opens about 300 m across (official “About the competition” page). This circle is drawn to scale around the approximate 10-gou launch site as a guide; where shells actually open shifts with the wind.
